This study distinguishes itself from other works on liberal and civic education by focusing explicitly on the civic and liberal education of those citizens who are not destined for prominent positions within politics and government but are still a part of and relevant to political society. It considers this strand of liberal and civic education, in both its ancient and modern iterations, by focusing on the philosophies of Plato, Cicero, Locke, Rousseau, and Adam Smith. Geoffrey Kellow is an Associate Professor in The College of the Humanities and the Department of Political Science at Carleton University, Canada. He specializes in the history of ideas. Professor Kellow researches the history of liberal education with a particular interest in the civic and economic components thereof. He is the editor of On Civic Republicanism (with Neven Leddy) and the author of essays and reviews published in both scholarly journals and the popular media. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Carleton University. . 001445348 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (SpringerLink, viewed April 6, 2022). 001445348 650_0 $$aCivics$$xStudy and teaching. 001445348 650_0 $$aEducation, Humanistic$$xPhilosophy. 001445348 650_0 $$aEconomics. 001445348 650_0 $$aEconomics$$xHistory. 001445348 650_6 $$aÉconomie politique$$xHistoire. 001445348 650_6 $$aÉconomie politique. 001445348 650_6 $$aÉducation à la citoyenneté. 001445348 650_6 $$aÉducation humaniste$$xPhilosophie. 001445348 655_7 $$aHistory.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst01411628 001445348 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001445348 77608 $$iPrint version: $$z303095871X$$z9783030958718$$w(OCoLC)1291172358 001445348 830_0 $$aPalgrave studies in classical liberalism.$$x2662-6489 001445348 852__ $$bebk 001445348 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-95872-5$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001445348 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1445348$$pGLOBAL_SET 001445348 980__ $$aBIB 001445348 980__ $$aEBOOK 001445348 982__ $$aEbook 001445348 983__ $$aOnline 001445348 994__ $$a92$$bISE
