The core thesis in this work is that many problems do not hinge on the question of whether or not we subscribe to causal pluralism. As one step in this central argument, the author develops an account that reasonably distinguishes pluralism from monism; in another step he studies cases that allegedly motivate causal pluralism in biology. Examining these cases shows how pluralism is often irrelevant and why pursuing pluralism is sometimes dangerous, since it may generate pseudo solutions to persistent philosophical problems. This book offers a systematic approach to this subject matter and argues that we might have overestimated the significance of the monism-pluralism distinction and at the same time failed to see the risks of pursuing causal pluralism. 001445642 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (SpringerLink, viewed April 11, 2022). 001445642 650_0 $$aBiology$$xPhilosophy. 001445642 650_0 $$aPluralism. 001445642 650_6 $$aBiologie$$xPhilosophie. 001445642 650_6 $$aPluralisme (Philosophie) 001445642 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001445642 77608 $$iPrint version: $$z3030879410$$z9783030879419$$w(OCoLC)1265456063 001445642 830_0 $$aHistory, philosophy and theory of the life sciences ;$$vv. 25.$$x2211-1956 001445642 852__ $$bebk 001445642 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-87942-6$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001445642 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1445642$$pGLOBAL_SET 001445642 980__ $$aBIB 001445642 980__ $$aEBOOK 001445642 982__ $$aEbook 001445642 983__ $$aOnline 001445642 994__ $$a92$$bISE
