Motorsport was able to bring together the two dominant, and often opposed, cultural roots of Fascism, the Futurism of F. T. Marinetti, and the Decadence associated with Gabriele D'Annunzio. The book traces this cultural convergence through a topical study of motorsport in the 1920s and 1930s placing it in the context of the history of sport under Mussolini's regime. Chapters discuss the centrality of speed and death in Fascist culture, the attempt to transform Rome into a motorsport capital, the architectural and ideological function of the Monza and Tripoli and autodromes, and two chapters on the importance of the Mille Miglia, a genuine Fascist artefact that became one of the most legendary motor races of all time. Paul Baxa is Associate Professor of History at Ave Maria University in Florida, USA. His previous publications include Roads and Ruins: The Symbolic Landscape of Fascist Rome (University of Toronto Press, 2010). 001446357 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (SpringerLink, viewed May 5, 2022). 001446357 650_0 $$aMotorsports$$zItaly$$xHistory$$y20th century. 001446357 650_0 $$aMotorsports$$xPolitical aspects$$zItaly. 001446357 650_0 $$aFascism and sports$$zItaly$$xHistory$$y20th century. 001446357 650_0 $$aFascism$$zItaly$$xHistory$$y20th century. 001446357 650_6 $$aSport automobile$$zItalie$$xHistoire$$y20e siècle. 001446357 650_6 $$aSport automobile$$xAspect politique$$zItalie. 001446357 650_6 $$aFascisme et sports$$zItalie$$xHistoire$$y20e siècle. 001446357 650_6 $$aFascisme$$zItalie$$xHistoire$$y20e siècle. 001446357 651_0 $$aItaly$$xHistory$$y1914-1945. 001446357 651_6 $$aItalie$$xHistoire$$y1914-1945. 001446357 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001446357 655_7 $$aHistory.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst01411628 001446357 77608 $$iPrint version: $$z3030979660$$z9783030979669$$w(OCoLC)1295352659 001446357 830_0 $$aGlobal culture and sport.$$x2662-3412 001446357 852__ $$bebk 001446357 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-97967-6$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001446357 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1446357$$pGLOBAL_SET 001446357 980__ $$aBIB 001446357 980__ $$aEBOOK 001446357 982__ $$aEbook 001446357 983__ $$aOnline 001446357 994__ $$a92$$bISE
