After introducing the basic concepts of engineering tools, it discusses modelling and the applications of engineering techniques (e.g. computational fluid dynamics, fluid-structure interaction, structural simulations, virtual surgery, advanced image analysis, 3D printing) in specific congenital heart diseases. It also offers a number of clinical case studies describing the applications in real-life clinical practice. The final section focuses on the importance of surgical training, counselling and patient communication. Considering the unique anatomical arrangement pre/post repair in CHD, as well as the different surgical strategy and device options (e.g. stents) for interventions, a patient-specific approach is certainly warranted in this area of medicine, and engineering is helping improve our understanding of individual patients and their particular anatomy and physiology. To reinforce the idea of a necessary dialogue between engineers and clinicians, this book has not only been edited by two cardiologists and two bioengineers, but each chapter has been written by a clinician and an engineer, incorporating both voices in the description of state-of-the-art models for different CHDs. 001446462 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 001446462 650_0 $$aCongenital heart disease$$xTreatment$$xSimulation methods. 001446462 650_0 $$aHeart$$xModels. 001446462 650_0 $$aBiomedical engineering. 001446462 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001446462 7001_ $$aButera, Gianfranco,$$eeditor. 001446462 7001_ $$aSchievano, Silvia,$$eeditor. 001446462 7001_ $$aBiglino, Giovanni,$$cDr.,$$eeditor.$$1https://isni.org/isni/0000000497019516 001446462 7001_ $$aMcElhinney, Doff,$$eeditor. 001446462 77608 $$iPrint version:$$tModelling congenital heart disease.$$dCham : Springer, 2022$$z9783030888916$$w(OCoLC)1295105137 001446462 852__ $$bebk 001446462 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-88892-3$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001446462 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1446462$$pGLOBAL_SET 001446462 980__ $$aBIB 001446462 980__ $$aEBOOK 001446462 982__ $$aEbook 001446462 983__ $$aOnline 001446462 994__ $$a92$$bISE
