In doing so, the book presents an original study on dynamics of European identities during four crises in Georgia and Ukraine. More specifically, it considers the comparative impact of two colour revolutions and wars involving Russia on European identity constructions in Georgian and Ukrainian public identity discourses, studied through national mass media. It compares outcomes of change and continuity during such "big bang" events in identity discourses and establishes scope conditions that allow or inhibit change. The major finding of the study is that the selected events can indeed instigate sudden shifts in European identity discourses but only when the elite power structure also changes in such hybrid regimes, as Ukraine and Georgia. These changes include shifts in elite groups and in the relative power they hold in the overall power structure. Salome Minesashvili is Lecturer in International Relations, Political Science and Post-Soviet Politics at the Freie Universitat Berlin and ESCP Europe, Germany. She is also Research Analyst at the Tbilisi-based think tank, Georgian Institute of Politics (GIP). She has published articles and book chapters on the topics of foreign policy analysis, identity politics, soft power politics, EUEastern Neighbourhood relations and transformation processes in the former Soviet Union. 001446744 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 001446744 650_0 $$aCrises$$zGeorgia (Republic) 001446744 650_0 $$aCrises$$zUkraine. 001446744 650_0 $$aNational characteristics, European. 001446744 651_0 $$aGeorgia (Republic)$$xRelations$$zEurope. 001446744 651_0 $$aEurope$$xRelations$$zGeorgia (Republic) 001446744 651_0 $$aUkraine$$xRelations$$zEurope. 001446744 651_0 $$aEurope$$xRelations$$zUkraine. 001446744 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001446744 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aMinesashvili, Salome.$$tEuropean identities during wars and revolutions.$$dBasingstoke : Palgrave Macmillan, 2022$$z9783030967161$$w(OCoLC)1308487716 001446744 852__ $$bebk 001446744 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-96717-8$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001446744 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1446744$$pGLOBAL_SET 001446744 980__ $$aBIB 001446744 980__ $$aEBOOK 001446744 982__ $$aEbook 001446744 983__ $$aOnline 001446744 994__ $$a92$$bISE
