This book examines a variety of topics, starting from fundamental principles, leading to the current state of the art research. For example, this volume includes a chapter on the sensing of biological molecules with optical resonators (microspheres) combined with plasmonic systems, where the response this system are described in a fundamental and elegant manner using coupled mode theory. Symmetry plays a major role in the book. One chapter on time reversal symmetry in electromagnetic theory describes how to control the properties of light (e.g. scattering and directionality of the flow of light) in materials with certain topological invariants. Another chapter where symmetry is prominent reformulates, using a gentle and pedagogical approach, Maxwells Equations into a new set of fields that reveal a "handedness" symmetry in electromagnetic theory, which can be applied to photonic systems in, for example, the sensing of chiral molecules and understanding the conditions for zero reflection. Also, for students and researchers starting in the field of nanoplasmonics, the book includes a tutorial on the finite element time domain simulation of nanoplasmonic systems. Other topics include photonic systems for quantum computing, nanoplasmonics, and optical properties of nano and bulk materials. The authors take a pedagogical approach to their topic, making the book an excellent reference for graduate students and scientists starting in the fields of photonics or plasmonics. 001446978 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 001446978 650_0 $$aLight$$vCongresses. 001446978 650_0 $$aOptics$$vCongresses. 001446978 650_0 $$aPhotonics$$vCongresses. 001446978 650_0 $$aNanoscience$$vCongresses. 001446978 655_7 $$aConference papers and proceedings.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst01423772 001446978 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001446978 7001_ $$aCesaria, Maura,$$eeditor.$$1https://isni.org/isni/0000000496980495 001446978 7001_ $$aCalĂ  Lesina, Antonio,$$eeditor. 001446978 7001_ $$aCollins, John,$$eeditor. 001446978 77608 $$iPrint version:$$tLight-matter interactions towards the nanoscale.$$dDordrecht : Springer, 2022$$z9789402421378$$w(OCoLC)1314336408 001446978 830_0 $$aNATO Science for Peace and Security series.$$nB,$$pPhysics and biophysics. 001446978 852__ $$bebk 001446978 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-94-024-2138-5$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001446978 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1446978$$pGLOBAL_SET 001446978 980__ $$aBIB 001446978 980__ $$aEBOOK 001446978 982__ $$aEbook 001446978 983__ $$aOnline 001446978 994__ $$a92$$bISE
