Primary care physicians are the largest prescribers of psychiatric medications in the US, and they provide the bulk of psychiatric diagnoses and treatment, especially in traditionally underserved areas. However, since psychiatric training in medical school and residency is often brief, many primary care physicians do not feel confident in treating psychiatric disorders. This book is designed to provide primary care physicians the tools to successfully diagnose and treat psychiatric disorders. Each chapter of this book is devoted to a different, major psychiatric disorder. The chapters are similar in their format for ease of use.
