In reviewing the theatre of the Romantic era, this monograph draws attention to the ways in which theatre reflected the pervasive impact of increased temporal urgency in social and cultural behaviour. The contribution this book makes to the study of drama in the early nineteenth century is a renewed emphasis on time as a prominent element in Romantic dramaturgy, and a reappraisal of the extensive experimentation on how time functioned. Frederick Burwick, Emeritus Professor at UCLA, is author and editor of thirty-four books and one hundred sixty-five articles. He has worked extensively on Romantic drama and Anglo-German literary relations. He is the general editor of the three-volume Encyclopedia of Romantic Literature (2012) and editor of The Oxford Handbook of Samuel Taylor Coleridge (2009). Recent monographs include A History of Romantic Literature (2019), British Drama of the Industrial Revolution (2015) and Playing to the Crowd, London Popular Theatre, 1780-1830 (2011). 001447323 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 001447323 650_0 $$aEnglish drama$$y18th century$$xHistory and criticism. 001447323 650_0 $$aEnglish drama$$y19th century$$xHistory and criticism. 001447323 650_0 $$aRomanticism. 001447323 650_0 $$aTime in literature. 001447323 650_6 $$aThéâtre anglais$$0(CaQQLa)201-0031679$$y18e siècle$$0(CaQQLa)201-0031679$$xHistoire et critique.$$0(CaQQLa)201-0377571 001447323 650_6 $$aThéâtre anglais$$0(CaQQLa)201-0074829$$y19e siècle$$0(CaQQLa)201-0074829$$xHistoire et critique.$$0(CaQQLa)201-0377571 001447323 650_6 $$aRomantisme.$$0(CaQQLa)201-0010284 001447323 650_6 $$aTemps dans la littérature.$$0(CaQQLa)201-0013252 001447323 655_7 $$aCriticism, interpretation, etc.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst01411635 001447323 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001447323 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aBurwick, Frederick.$$tTime in romantic theatre.$$dBasingstoke : Palgrave Macmillan, 2022$$z9783030960780$$w(OCoLC)1308475419 001447323 852__ $$bebk 001447323 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-96079-7$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001447323 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1447323$$pGLOBAL_SET 001447323 980__ $$aBIB 001447323 980__ $$aEBOOK 001447323 982__ $$aEbook 001447323 983__ $$aOnline 001447323 994__ $$a92$$bISE
