The data analyzed encompass both naturally occurring (daily conversation as well as institutional talk) and elicited (experiments and interviews) types, and are explored at both quantitative and qualitative levels to offer a relatively systematic and comprehensive inquiry into self-praise as social (inter)action. Contributors to this book not only draw on traditional politeness theories but are also informed by social psychology, interactional sociolinguistics, CMC, and (multimodal) discourse analysis. They are inspired by pragmatics but also go beyond to ground their studies within locally situated cultural contexts, most of which are under-presented in the current academic world. Their efforts substantiate the fact that self-praise is most worthy of intensive analytic attention. This book appeals to students and researchers in the field and contributes to the way communication is facilitated through different ways of deploying linguistic and interactional resources. 001450105 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (SpringerLink, viewed October 17, 2022). 001450105 650_0 $$aSelf-presentation$$vCross-cultural studies. 001450105 650_0 $$aInterpersonal communication$$vCross-cultural studies. 001450105 650_0 $$aPoliteness (Linguistics)$$vCross-cultural studies. 001450105 650_0 $$aPraise$$vCross-cultural studies. 001450105 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001450105 655_7 $$aCross-cultural studies.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst01423769 001450105 7001_ $$aXie, Chaoqun,$$eeditor. 001450105 7001_ $$aTong, Ying,$$eeditor. 001450105 77608 $$iPrint version: $$z3030992160$$z9783030992163$$w(OCoLC)1302579614 001450105 830_0 $$aAdvances in (im)politeness studies. 001450105 852__ $$bebk 001450105 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-99217-0$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001450105 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1450105$$pGLOBAL_SET 001450105 980__ $$aBIB 001450105 980__ $$aEBOOK 001450105 982__ $$aEbook 001450105 983__ $$aOnline 001450105 994__ $$a92$$bISE
