It does this by engaging with often ignored peace infrastructures. In this book, the contributors highlight different ways in which non-violence is deployed by Africas youth to navigate difficult violent contexts. Drawing on empirically grounded case studies from the Central African Republic to Zimbabwe, this book explores how similar (or indeed the same) social infrastructures can be deployed for both violence and non-violence and the important factors that drive many youth to take the non[1]violence option even when order appears to collapse around them. The authors also explore how, for instance, systems of organizing survive violent disruptions to the so-called rhythms of everyday life, and, when they do, how they are then repurposed by youth to help them survive violence. Akin Iwilade is a Lecturer in African Studies at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, and conducts research on the anthropology of youth and gangs in Africa. Tarila Marclint Ebiede is a Political Scientist. He is co-founder of Conflict Research Network West Africa. He is also an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Kents Brussels School of International Studies and the Brussels School of Governance, both in Belgium. 001450704 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 001450704 650_0 $$aYouth$$zAfrica$$xSocial conditions. 001450704 650_0 $$aNonviolence$$zAfrica. 001450704 650_0 $$aViolence$$zAfrica. 001450704 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001450704 7001_ $$aIwilade, Samuel Akinwumi,$$d1991-$$eeditor.$$1https://isni.org/isni/0000000498868501 001450704 7001_ $$aEbiede, Tarila Marclint,$$eeditor. 001450704 77608 $$iPrint version:$$tYouth and non-violence in Africa's fragile contexts.$$dBasingstoke : Palgrave Macmillan, 2022$$z9783031131646$$w(OCoLC)1346321677 001450704 852__ $$bebk 001450704 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-031-13165-3$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001450704 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1450704$$pGLOBAL_SET 001450704 980__ $$aBIB 001450704 980__ $$aEBOOK 001450704 982__ $$aEbook 001450704 983__ $$aOnline 001450704 994__ $$a92$$bISE
