The book follows the Masks of Arlecchino, Pedrolino and Pulcinella as they gradually migrate and mutate into Harlequin, Mr. Punch and seaside Pierrot troupes. What happened to Pantalone, Scaramouche, Colombina and the male Lover is also investigated, though they had no final forms of their own. This study constitutes a history of what happened, notably in France and Great Britain, to a supremely popular theatrical genre as a result of changing fashions in entertainment brought on by societal developments, civil and industrial revolution and dynastic change. It investigates how the genre was exploited by management, and even its own stars, lost its vitality and gradually ended up in sunken forms. John Rudlin, now retired, was the founder of Drama courses at Exeter University, UK, and first Head of Department. He left this position to found the Centre Selavy, a Centre in France for the study of outdoor performance. Johns previous publications include Commedia dell'Arte, its Structure and Tradition: Antonio Fava in Conversation with John Rudlin (2020), Jacques Copeau (2009) and Commedia Dell'Arte: A Handbook for Troupes (2002), edited with Olly Crick. . 001450746 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 001450746 650_0 $$aCommedia dell'arte$$xHistory and criticism. 001450746 650_0 $$aCommedia dell'arte$$xInfluence. 001450746 650_0 $$aItalian drama (Comedy)$$zForeign countries. 001450746 655_7 $$aCriticism, interpretation, etc.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst01411635 001450746 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001450746 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z9783031105111 001450746 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z3031105109$$z9783031105104$$w(OCoLC)1329422624 001450746 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aRUDLIN, JOHN.$$tMETAMORPHOSES OF COMMEDIA DELL'ARTE.$$d[S.l.] : PALGRAVE MACMILLAN, 2022$$z3031105109$$w(OCoLC)1329422624 001450746 852__ $$bebk 001450746 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-031-10511-1$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001450746 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1450746$$pGLOBAL_SET 001450746 980__ $$aBIB 001450746 980__ $$aEBOOK 001450746 982__ $$aEbook 001450746 983__ $$aOnline 001450746 994__ $$a92$$bISE
