It offers a critical examination of the conditions under which LGBT protest activity arises and declines in authoritarian states - including state repression and socio-political discrimination of LGBT people; policy changes that negatively affect the LGBT community; and the motivations of the activists themselves. The author argues that a combination of political opportunity structures, resources, and activists perceptions establish necessary conditions for protesting. If any of these factors are negatively affected, then LGBT activists would not be motivated to protest. The volume concludes with a discussion of the implications of Russian LGBT activism in hostile conditions. This book will be of interest to scholars engaged in human rights, social movement studies, gender studies, LGBT rights, and post-Soviet politics and societies. 001450807 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 001450807 650_0 $$aSexual minorities$$zRussia (Federation) 001450807 650_0 $$aProtest movements$$zRussia (Federation) 001450807 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001450807 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z3031148908$$z9783031148903$$w(OCoLC)1336004325 001450807 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aBuyantueva, Radzhana, author.$$tEmergence and development of LGBT protest activity in Russia$$z9783031148903$$w(OCoLC)1346950687 001450807 852__ $$bebk 001450807 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-031-14891-0$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001450807 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1450807$$pGLOBAL_SET 001450807 980__ $$aBIB 001450807 980__ $$aEBOOK 001450807 982__ $$aEbook 001450807 983__ $$aOnline 001450807 994__ $$a92$$bISE
