It analyzes how these works create a dialogue across the Mediterranean Sea. By paying attention to the multiple ways in which the Mediterranean is being narrated by contemporary writers and artists, Silvia Caserta aims to propose a reconceptualization of the Mediterranean as a polyphonic space of movement and resistance. The Mediterranean space that emerges from this study is a space that, by virtue of the instability and porosity of its geographical and cultural borders, is able to overcome normative dichotomies between north and south, east and west, local and global. This book proposes the Mediterranean is a fruitful area from which to investigate the wider contradictions of the contemporary global world while avoiding the traps of "Mediterraneanism". For this reason, the book highlights the contradictions and dissonances that emerge from reading Mediterranean works, opening up multiple perspectives on the Sea and on the different lands that surround it. Silvia Caserta is Associate Lecturer in Comparative Literature at the University of St Andrews, UK. Her research focuses on contemporary Italian literature and culture, approached within the broader cultural and geographical framework of the Mediterranean. . 001450855 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 001450855 650_0 $$aEmigration and immigration in literature. 001450855 650_0 $$aEmigration and immigration in art. 001450855 650_0 $$aItalian literature$$xHistory and criticism. 001450855 650_0 $$aArabic literature$$xHistory and criticism. 001450855 650_0 $$aFrench literature$$xHistory and criticism. 001450855 650_0 $$aArt, Italian. 001450855 650_0 $$aArt, Arab. 001450855 650_0 $$aArt, French. 001450855 651_0 $$aMediterranean Region$$xIn literature. 001450855 651_0 $$aMediterranean Region$$xIn art. 001450855 655_7 $$aArt.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst01423702 001450855 655_7 $$aCriticism, interpretation, etc.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst01411635 001450855 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001450855 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z9783031077739 001450855 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z3031077725$$z9783031077722$$w(OCoLC)1322047950 001450855 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aCASERTA, SILVIA.$$tNARRATIVES OF MEDITERRANEAN SPACES.$$d[S.l.] : PALGRAVE MACMILLAN, 2022$$z3031077725$$w(OCoLC)1322047950 001450855 830_0 $$aGeocriticism and spatial literary studies. 001450855 852__ $$bebk 001450855 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-031-07773-9$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001450855 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1450855$$pGLOBAL_SET 001450855 980__ $$aBIB 001450855 980__ $$aEBOOK 001450855 982__ $$aEbook 001450855 983__ $$aOnline 001450855 994__ $$a92$$bISE
