It refers to the treatment of citizens by their state in a manner resembling a treatment of soldiers by the army. The militarisation of behaviours is a process of mass social control where the state exercises its powers over the population, blurring the boundaries between a dichotomous divide of civilian and military life. This book focuses on the social process of how Polish post-WWII emergency legislation was normalised and how through it the Polish communist state (from 1943/4 until 1989) introduced and enforced the process of militarisation of behaviours. It discusses the impact of the emergency legislation on the Republic of Ireland as a comparison. It offers a useful lens to understand the social and political processes happening currently in Poland, Ireland, and elsewhere, with the increasing influence of the (far) right. This book is situated in the framework of criminology and socio-legal studies. Bazej Kaucz is a researcher in criminology and socio-legal studies. He completed his PhD in criminology in the Department of Sociology and Criminology at University College Cork, Ireland. 001450883 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 001450883 650_0 $$aSocial control$$zPoland. 001450883 650_0 $$aSocial control$$zIreland. 001450883 650_0 $$aIntelligence service$$xPolitical aspects$$zPoland. 001450883 650_0 $$aIntelligence service$$xPolitical aspects$$zIreland. 001450883 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001450883 77608 $$iPrint version: $$z3031166000$$z9783031166006$$w(OCoLC)1340403125 001450883 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aKaucz, Blazej, author.$$tMilitarisation of behaviours$$z9783031166006$$w(OCoLC)1346925699 001450883 830_0 $$aCritical criminological perspectives,$$x2731-0612 001450883 852__ $$bebk 001450883 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-031-16601-3$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001450883 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1450883$$pGLOBAL_SET 001450883 980__ $$aBIB 001450883 980__ $$aEBOOK 001450883 982__ $$aEbook 001450883 983__ $$aOnline 001450883 994__ $$a92$$bISE
