The author has led the analysis of the 28Mg(d,p)29Mg reaction, measured with the ISOLDE Solenoidal Spectrometer (ISS) at the ISOLDE facility, CERN. This was the first measurement made using this device and the first time that a solenoidal spectrometer has been used at an ISOL radioactive beam facility. Significant attention is paid to optimizing methods of analysing direct nuclear reactions taking place in solenoidal fields and, as part of this, the author has developed his own analysis codes and simulations. The thesis gives an extremely comprehensive and well-written description of this novel system and provides a canonical reference for ISS that will be of great use to researchers and students, as well as presenting some significant scientific results focused on the N=20 "island of inversion", a region of nuclides of great current interest in nuclear physics. . 001451901 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (SpringerLink, viewed January 4, 2023). 001451901 650_0 $$aNuclear structure. 001451901 650_0 $$aParticles (Nuclear physics) 001451901 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001451901 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aMacGregor, Patrick T.$$tSingle-Particle Structure of 29Mg on the Approach to the N = 20 Island of Inversion$$dCham : Springer International Publishing AG,c2022$$z9783031191183 001451901 830_0 $$aSpringer theses. 001451901 852__ $$bebk 001451901 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-031-19119-0$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001451901 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1451901$$pGLOBAL_SET 001451901 980__ $$aBIB 001451901 980__ $$aEBOOK 001451901 982__ $$aEbook 001451901 983__ $$aOnline 001451901 994__ $$a92$$bISE
