Collected by the Marquess and Marchioness of Newcastle, William and Margaret Cavendish, during the 1640s and 1650s, this manuscript features letters of advice, recipes, and sundry philosophical and medical reflections by some of the most formidable and influential physicians, philosophers, and courtly scholars of the early seventeenth century. These include "Europe's physician" Theodore de Mayerne, the adventurer and courtier Kenelm Digby, and the natural philosopher, poet, and playwright Margaret Cavendish. While the transcription and accompanying annotations will allow a diverse array of readers to appreciate the manuscript for the first time, the introduction situates the Cavendishes' recipe collecting habits, medical preoccupations, natural philosophical views, and politics within their social, cultural, and philosophical contexts, and draws out some of the most significant implications of this important document. 001452275 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 001452275 60010 $$aNewcastle, Margaret Cavendish,$$cDuchess of,$$d1624?-1674$$1https://isni.org/isni/0000000121259917 001452275 650_0 $$aMedicine$$zEurope$$vFormulae, receipts, prescriptions. 001452275 650_0 $$aMedicine$$vFormulae, receipts, prescriptions$$vEarly works to 1800. 001452275 650_0 $$aMedicine$$zEurope$$xHistory$$y17th century. 001452275 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001452275 7001_ $$aGoldberg, Benjamin$$q(Benjamin Isaac),$$eauthor. 001452275 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aBegley, Justin, 1990-$$tMedical world of Margaret Cavendish.$$dBasingstoke : Palgrave Macmillan, 2022$$z9783030929268$$w(OCoLC)1308489374 001452275 830_0 $$aPalgrave studies in medieval and early modern medicine. 001452275 852__ $$bebk 001452275 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-030-92927-5$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001452275 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1452275$$pGLOBAL_SET 001452275 980__ $$aBIB 001452275 980__ $$aEBOOK 001452275 982__ $$aEbook 001452275 983__ $$aOnline 001452275 994__ $$a92$$bISE
