It explores how language serves to (de)legitimise governance, and its subsequent policies and activities in Malaysia. Grounded in discourse studies, this edited volume presents research on the discourses produced by and on Barisan Nasional, Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional from 2008 to 2020, studying how political actors (de)legitimise their governance through discursive means. The thirteen original chapters select spoken, print and digital texts in English, Malay, Mandarin and Tamil, and deploy varied theoretical and methodological approaches. Their linguistic analysis unearths the language features and strategies that facilitate (de)legitimation. It shows how political actors shape the discursive representation and evaluation of multiple concerns in Malaysia. Consequently, Discursive Approaches to Politics in Malaysia: Legitimising Governance improves our understanding of contemporary Malaysian political discourse. It is of interest to graduates and researchers in the field of discourse studies, seeking to understand the discursive contours of politics in this developing Asian country. 001452649 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (SpringerLink, viewed January 12 2023). 001452649 650_0 $$aLanguage and languages$$xPolitical aspects. 001452649 651_0 $$aMalaysia$$xPolitics and government. 001452649 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001452649 7001_ $$aRajandran, Kumaran,$$eeditor.$$0(orcid)0000-0002-4956-0645$$1https://orcid.org/0000-0002-4956-0645 001452649 7001_ $$aLee, Charity,$$eeditor.$$0(orcid)0000-0002-0988-8101$$1https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0988-8101 001452649 77608 $$iPrint version: $$z9811953333$$z9789811953330$$w(OCoLC)1334722385 001452649 830_0 $$aAsia in transition (Springer (Firm)) ;$$vv. 18.$$x2364-8260 001452649 852__ $$bebk 001452649 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-981-19-5334-7$$zOnline Access$$91397441.2 001452649 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1452649$$pGLOBAL_SET 001452649 980__ $$aBIB 001452649 980__ $$aEBOOK 001452649 982__ $$aEbook 001452649 983__ $$aOnline 001452649 994__ $$a92$$bISE
