By producing a detailed account of the drivers behind these disputes as well as the broader political outcomes they have generated, this study provides invaluable conceptual and empirical lessons on the contemporary meaning of SSC. In doing so, it helps readers garner a more acute understanding of the role played by Global South states and the private sector (SOEs) against the backdrop of SSC. Benjamin Barton is the author of Political Trust and the Politics of Security Engagement: China and the European Union in Africa (2017) and co-editor of China and the European Union in Africa: Partners or Competitors? (2011). His research interests centre around economic statecraft and local agency attached to the BRI. Barton is Associate Professor at the University of Nottingham Malaysia, where he convenes modules on Chinese foreign policy and on the geopolitics of the Indo-Pacific. 001453373 588__ $$aDescription based upon print version of record. 001453373 650_0 $$aInfrastructure (Economics)$$xPolitical aspects$$zDjibouti. 001453373 650_0 $$aHarbors$$zDjibouti$$zDjibouti. 001453373 651_0 $$aDjibouti$$xForeign economic relations$$zChina. 001453373 651_0 $$aChina$$xForeign economic relations$$zDjibouti. 001453373 651_0 $$aDjibouti$$xForeign economic relations$$zUnited Arab Emirates. 001453373 651_0 $$aUnited Arab Emirates$$xForeign economic relations$$zDjibouti. 001453373 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001453373 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aBarton, Benjamin$$tThe Doraleh Disputes$$dSingapore : Palgrave Macmillan US,c2023$$z9789811974380 001453373 830_0 $$aGlobal political transitions. 001453373 852__ $$bebk 001453373 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-981-19-7439-7$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001453373 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1453373$$pGLOBAL_SET 001453373 980__ $$aBIB 001453373 980__ $$aEBOOK 001453373 982__ $$aEbook 001453373 983__ $$aOnline 001453373 994__ $$a92$$bISE
