Characterized by a tension between governing public and professional forces, the waves of educational reform reflect myriad efforts to define and fulfill professional and public expectations for the world of education. The first wave of reform, based on progressive ideals, spread across the globe after World War I, striving to place the student at the center of the education process and respond to the diverse needs of children and youth in a world that included massive population shifts. The second wave nearly obliterated the ideals of the progressive movement that had prevailed for sixty years. Drawing its principles from the business world, the second wave imposed competition, uniform standards, and measurable outputs on students, teachers, and schools, even at the cost of harming at-risk populations and encouraging the infiltration of private sector values into public education systems. The third wave was launched at the turn of the twenty-first century. Seeking to adjust instructional methods to modern reality, this reform rejected standardized curricula in favor of developing skills such as independent thinking, curiosity, innovation, collaboration among learners, and the ability to mine and process information. Book I reviews the three waves of reform in the United States, England, Canada, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, and Finland. Book II focuses on Israels education system past, present, and future. 001454200 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 001454200 650_0 $$aEducational change$$vCross-cultural studies. 001454200 650_0 $$aEducational change$$xHistory$$y20th century. 001454200 650_0 $$aEducational change$$xHistory$$y21st century. 001454200 655_7 $$aCross-cultural studies.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst01423769 001454200 655_7 $$aHistory.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst01411628 001454200 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001454200 7001_ $$aLoṭem, ʻImanuʼel,$$etranslator. 001454200 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aVOLANSKY, AMI.$$tTHREE WAVES OF REFORM IN THE WORLD OF EDUCATION 1918 - 2018.$$d[Place of publication not identified] : SPRINGER VERLAG, SINGAPOR, 2022$$z9811957703$$w(OCoLC)1336007663 001454200 852__ $$bebk 001454200 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-981-19-5771-0$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001454200 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1454200$$pGLOBAL_SET 001454200 980__ $$aBIB 001454200 980__ $$aEBOOK 001454200 982__ $$aEbook 001454200 983__ $$aOnline 001454200 994__ $$a92$$bISE
