While the importance of family for the development and wellbeing of children can't be overemphasized, the questions of what and who counts as family to orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs) are under-researched. Gwenzi brings a social constructionist approach to study OVCs in institutional care as well as living with their families in Zimbabwe, finding that they do not have a single definition of family and that they use diverse characteristics to describe what family means to them. With the data suggesting a need for belonging, continuity of relationships, protection, and trust, this study makes recommendations for policy and practice with youth in alternative care in sub-Saharan Africa. 001454812 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 001454812 650_0 $$aChildren$$xInstitutional care$$zZimbabwe. 001454812 650_0 $$aYouth$$xInstitutional care$$zZimbabwe. 001454812 650_0 $$aChildren$$zZimbabwe$$xSocial conditions. 001454812 650_0 $$aYouth$$zZimbabwe$$xSocial conditions. 001454812 650_0 $$aFamilies$$zZimbabwe. 001454812 650_0 $$aBelonging (Social psychology) in children$$zZimbabwe. 001454812 650_0 $$aBelonging (Social psychology)$$zZimbabwe. 001454812 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001454812 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aGWENZI, GETRUDE DADIRAI.$$tRETHINKING THE MEANING OF FAMILY FOR ADOLESCENTS AND YOUTH IN ZIMBABWE'S CHILD WELFARE INSTITUTIONS.$$d[Place of publication not identified] : PALGRAVE MACMILLAN, 2023$$z3031233743$$w(OCoLC)1351893961 001454812 830_0 $$aPalgrave Macmillan studies in family and intimate life. 001454812 852__ $$bebk 001454812 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-031-23375-3$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001454812 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1454812$$pGLOBAL_SET 001454812 980__ $$aBIB 001454812 980__ $$aEBOOK 001454812 982__ $$aEbook 001454812 983__ $$aOnline 001454812 994__ $$a92$$bISE
