It advocates the inclusion of corpus linguistics in the classroom as part of an approach to ELT in which students engage with naturally occurring language. The first chapter provides a basic but essential introduction to corpus linguistics, including sections on corpora and corpus methods, and this is followed by a review of the use of corpus linguistics in ELT. Chapters on the traditional ELT strands of skills, vocabulary and grammar as well as chapters on pluricentric approaches (on language and culture, World Englishes and English as a Lingua Franca) flow naturally from the second chapter, which reports on a survey of the attitudes of trainee teacher to the use of corpus linguistics in the ELT classroom. The final two chapters show how the work of corpus linguists can benefit classroom teacher preparation, materials development and textbook writing. This book will be of interest not only to academics in fields such as English Language Teaching, Applied Linguistics and Corpus Linguistics, but also to educators of teacher-trainees and teacher-trainees themselves, as well as teachers who are looking for new interactive approaches to ELT. Kieran Harrington is Senior Lecturer in English Linguistics at TU Dortmund University, Germany. Patricia Ronan is Professor of English Linguistics at TU Dortmund University, Germany. . 001461305 588__ $$aDescription based upon online resource; title from PDF title page (viewed March 13th, 2023). 001461305 650_0 $$aCorpora (Linguistics) 001461305 650_0 $$aComputational linguistics. 001461305 650_0 $$aEnglish language$$xStudy and teaching. 001461305 650_0 $$aEnglish language$$xStudy and teaching$$xData processing. 001461305 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001461305 7001_ $$aRonan, Patricia. 001461305 77608 $$iebook version :$$z9783031112201 001461305 77608 $$iPrint version: $$z3031112199$$z9783031112195$$w(OCoLC)1330406356 001461305 852__ $$bebk 001461305 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-031-11220-1$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001461305 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1461305$$pGLOBAL_SET 001461305 980__ $$aBIB 001461305 980__ $$aEBOOK 001461305 982__ $$aEbook 001461305 983__ $$aOnline 001461305 994__ $$a92$$bISE
