The author draws on her personal experiences as an art historian of ancient art who instructs a wide variety of undergraduates. In addition to helping students to look and think critically, the book explores how the material culture of the past can be a potent tool in motivating student involvement with course content and sharpening skills vital for navigating contemporary culture. Glenda Swan is an Art Historian specializing in Ancient Art at Valdosta State University, Georgia, USA. She is actively engaged in the scholarship of teaching and learning. In addition to her article on 'Building a Foundation for Survey: Employing a Focused Introduction' for Art History Pedagogy & Practice, and chapters on pedagogy contributed to Fostering a Climate of Inclusion in the College Classroom: The Missing Voice of the Humanities (Palgrave, 2018), she has presented over ten papers on her teaching approaches at conferences. All of these contributions were recognized in her being awarded the Presidential Excellence Award for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning at Valdosta State University in 2020. She was also the 2021 recipient of the SECAC Award for Excellence in Teaching. 001461911 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 001461911 650_0 $$aArt$$xHistory$$xStudy and teaching (Higher) 001461911 650_0 $$aArt, Ancient$$xStudy and teaching (Higher) 001461911 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001461911 655_7 $$aHistory.$$2fast$$0(OCoLC)fst01411628 001461911 77608 $$iPrint version: $$z303124026X$$z9783031240263$$w(OCoLC)1355010901 001461911 852__ $$bebk 001461911 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-031-24027-0$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001461911 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1461911$$pGLOBAL_SET 001461911 980__ $$aBIB 001461911 980__ $$aEBOOK 001461911 982__ $$aEbook 001461911 983__ $$aOnline 001461911 994__ $$a92$$bISE
