It explores how people build and transfer proficiency within and beyond the bounds of social groups. Social groups, such as professions, epistemic communities, or academic disciplines, collectively organize to help individuals gain understanding of and knowledge about specific subjects of expertise. Yet, at the same time, they frame legitimate ways of thinking and learning, and they sanction other ways of knowing that are collectively seen as false, inelegant, or inappropriate etc. Acknowledging the interdependency between proficiency and professions, the interdisciplinary contributions to this volume focus on three aspects. Part I looks into the social processes of professions and what actually makes qualifications, competence and proficiency. Part II elaborates on the dynamics that transform intangible knowledge by exploring, for instance, the legitimacy of scientists within society. Part III gives insights into how space influences the development of professional work, for instance, by reconstructing the historical formation of the psychology profession in Argentina. This volume provides a valuable read for scholars, students, and professionals in the fields of innovation, knowledge creation and governance. 001462129 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (SpringerLink, viewed March 21, 2023). 001462129 650_0 $$aKnowledge, Sociology of. 001462129 650_0 $$aAbility. 001462129 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001462129 7001_ $$aGlückler, Johannes,$$eeditor. 001462129 7001_ $$aWinch, Christopher,$$eeditor. 001462129 7001_ $$aPunstein, Anna Mateja,$$eeditor. 001462129 77608 $$iPrint version: $$z3031249097$$z9783031249099$$w(OCoLC)1356450943 001462129 830_0 $$aKnowledge and space ;$$vv. 18.$$x2543-0580 001462129 852__ $$bebk 001462129 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-031-24910-5$$zOnline Access$$91397441.2 001462129 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1462129$$pGLOBAL_SET 001462129 980__ $$aBIB 001462129 980__ $$aEBOOK 001462129 982__ $$aEbook 001462129 983__ $$aOnline 001462129 994__ $$a92$$bISE
