Providing a broad range of perspectives in terms of geopolitical places, thematic concerns, and theoretical and interdisciplinary approaches, it demonstrates the significance of literary narratives for understanding and critiquing motherhood and mothering as social phenomena and subjective experiences. The chapters contextualize motherhood and mothering in terms of their particular national and cultural location and analyze narratives about mothers who are firmly placed in one national context, as well as those who are in in-between positions due to migrant experiences. The contributions foreground and link together the themes central to the volume: embodied experience and maternal embodiment; notions of what is normal or natural (or not) about motherhood; maternal health and illness; mother-daughter relations; maternality and memory; and the (im)possibilities of giving voice to the mother. They raise questions about how motherhood and mothering are marked by absence and/or presence, as well as by profound ambivalences. 001462143 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 001462143 650_0 $$aMotherhood in literature. 001462143 650_0 $$aMothers in literature. 001462143 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001462143 7001_ $$aWahlström Henriksson, Helena,$$eeditor. 001462143 7001_ $$aWilliams, Anna,$$d1957-$$eeditor. 001462143 7001_ $$aFahlgren, Margaretha,$$eeditor. 001462143 77608 $$iPrint version:$$tNarratives of motherhood and mothering in fiction and life writing.$$dBasingstoke : Palgrave Macmillan, 2023$$z9783031172106$$w(OCoLC)1359607208 001462143 830_0 $$aPalgrave Macmillan studies in family and intimate life. 001462143 852__ $$bebk 001462143 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-031-17211-3$$zOnline Access$$91397441.2 001462143 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1462143$$pGLOBAL_SET 001462143 980__ $$aBIB 001462143 980__ $$aEBOOK 001462143 982__ $$aEbook 001462143 983__ $$aOnline 001462143 994__ $$a92$$bISE
