Cukier investigates the many ways in which democratic life depends on the democratic control of the economy, from workplaces to the economy as a whole." Jean-Philippe Deranty, Professor of Philosophy, Macquarie University, Australia. This book proposes a radical transformation of labour institutions, in order to lay the foundation for the democratization of society rather than capitalist accumulation. Using an empirical analysis of the contemporary world of work, Alexis Cukier examines the democratic meaning of todays critique of work organization and questions the theoretical models (linked to class struggles and to industrial democracy) to conceive of a "democratic work." Considering particular historical experiments (such as cooperatives, self-management, workers councils) that try to realize democracy at work, this book also analyzes the political issue of "democratic work" in relation to issues such as labour law, feminist struggles and political ecology. Ultimately, this book proposes some institutional paths that could overtake the divide between the rights of the citizens and the rights of the workers, arguing finally: if we really want to radicalize democracy, we should begin with democratizing work. Alexis Cukier is Associate Professor of Moral and Political Philosophy and member of the research laboratory Mtaphysique Allemande et Philosophie Pratique, University of Poitiers, France. 001467893 588__ $$aDescription based on online resource; title from digital title page (viewed on June 20, 2023). 001467893 650_0 $$aIndustrial sociology. 001467893 650_0 $$aLabor$$xPolitical aspects. 001467893 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001467893 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z9783031278563 001467893 77608 $$iPrint version:$$z3031278550$$z9783031278556$$w(OCoLC)1369508631 001467893 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aCUKIER, ALEXIS.$$tDEMOCRATIC WORK.$$d[S.l.] : PALGRAVE MACMILLAN, 2023$$z3031278550$$w(OCoLC)1369508631 001467893 830_0 $$aMarx, Engels, and Marxisms. 001467893 852__ $$bebk 001467893 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-031-27856-3$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001467893 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1467893$$pGLOBAL_SET 001467893 980__ $$aBIB 001467893 980__ $$aEBOOK 001467893 982__ $$aEbook 001467893 983__ $$aOnline 001467893 994__ $$a92$$bISE
