Moreover, the perception of environmental problems varies considerably on a global scale. The reasons normally cited for these differences largely stem from the environmental policy debates themselves, e.g. poverty, ignorance, capital interests, etc. In contrast, this book shows that concrete environmental policy emerges from a complex interplay of mass media and political conflicts: first, the mass media provide the framework for national environmental policy through agenda-setting, framing and scandalization; second, the mass media thereby change values in the political and social discourse, e.g. by altering the perception of global commons and expanding the possibilities of interest articulation; and third, this can lead to political decision-making processes in which legal and other measures for environmental protection are enforced. The book systematically compares industrialized countries such as Germany and Japan with several rapidly emerging countries in South and Southeast Asia. 001469772 588__ $$aDescription based upon print version of record. 001469772 650_0 $$aEnvironmental policy$$zEurope. 001469772 650_0 $$aEnvironmental policy$$zAsia. 001469772 650_0 $$aMass media and the environment$$zEurope. 001469772 650_0 $$aMass media and the environment$$zAsia. 001469772 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001469772 7001_ $$aBriesen, Detlef,$$eeditor. 001469772 7001_ $$aDas, Sarada Prasanna,$$eeditor. 001469772 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aBriesen, Detlef$$tMedia, Politics and Environment$$dCham : Springer International Publishing AG,c2023$$z9783031312519 001469772 830_0 $$aSpringer studies in media and political communication. 001469772 852__ $$bebk 001469772 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-031-31252-6$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001469772 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1469772$$pGLOBAL_SET 001469772 980__ $$aBIB 001469772 980__ $$aEBOOK 001469772 982__ $$aEbook 001469772 983__ $$aOnline 001469772 994__ $$a92$$bISE
