It explores the connections between politics and culture (specifically theatre) and between political theory and cultural (theatrical) expression. The book is organized chronologically and uncovers much in labour and theatre history which is in danger of being lost. It can also be seen as a way into different moments in its subjects story (e.g. post-Ibsen naturalism; agitprop theatre; fringe theatre of the 1970s) and the relationship of such forms to specific political events and ideas at specific points in history. Robert Leach taught at Birmingham and Edinburgh Universities and was also a freelance theatre director. He has published more than a dozen books on theatre subjects, including Theatre Workshop: Joan Littlewood and the Making of Modern British Theatre and An Illustrated History of British Theatre and Performance both of which were shortlisted for Theatre Book of the Year. 001471812 588__ $$aDescription based on print version record. 001471812 650_0 $$aWorkers' theater$$zGreat Britain$$xHistory. 001471812 650_0 $$aSocialism and theater$$zGreat Britain$$xHistory. 001471812 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001471812 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aLEACH, ROBERT.$$tBRITISH SOCIALIST AND WORKERS THEATRE.$$d[Place of publication not identified] : PALGRAVE MACMILLAN, 2023$$z3031256816$$w(OCoLC)1360301150 001471812 852__ $$bebk 001471812 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-031-25682-0$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001471812 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1471812$$pGLOBAL_SET 001471812 980__ $$aBIB 001471812 980__ $$aEBOOK 001471812 982__ $$aEbook 001471812 983__ $$aOnline 001471812 994__ $$a92$$bISE
