Through a sustained analysis of Nietzsche's rhetorical style, stratagems, and didactic aims in two of his early works ('On Truth and Lies in a Non-Moral Sense' and Daybreak) and two of his later works (Beyond Good and Evil and Twilight of the Idols), the book assesses the extent to which Nietzsche's substantial rhetorical arsenal undermines the philosophical claims he is seeking to advance. The four case studies also bring to the fore some of the less palatable aspects of Nietzsche's thought such as racial-stereotyping, the essentialising of a so-called slave mentality, and the ranking of human beings based on a highly idiosyncratic and prejudiced view of what qualifies as noble and ignoble. 001482789 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (SpringerLink, viewed October 30, 2023). 001482789 60010 $$aNietzsche, Friedrich Wilhelm,$$d1844-1900.$$d1844-1900.$$tWorks.$$kSelections.$$lEnglish.$$f1992$$0(DLC)n 92042605 001482789 650_0 $$aRhetoric$$xPhilosophy.$$0(DLC)sh2019102699 001482789 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001482789 77608 $$iPrint version: $$z303142963X$$z9783031429637$$w(OCoLC)1391213387 001482789 852__ $$bebk 001482789 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-031-42964-4$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001482789 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1482789$$pGLOBAL_SET 001482789 980__ $$aBIB 001482789 980__ $$aEBOOK 001482789 982__ $$aEbook 001482789 983__ $$aOnline 001482789 994__ $$a92$$bISE
