The examination of these unique and little known documents contributes to our scant knowledge about the practices that many would call a Soviet proto-type of 'aversion therapy'. It also helps us understand the way homosexual people faced "queer dilemmas" of the self and how they sought to reconcile their queer desire with being Soviet. Rustam Alexander is a historian, specializing in Russia and the USSR, who received his PhD from the University of Melbourne, Australia. He is the author of Red Closet: The Hidden History of Gay Oppression in the USSR (2023) and Regulating Homosexuality in Soviet Russia, 1956-91: A Different History (2021). His work on the history of Soviet homosexuality has been published in Slavic Review, Russian History, Europe-Asia Studies and other academic journals. 001484502 588__ $$aOnline resource; title from PDF title page (SpringerLink, viewed December 4, 2023). 001484502 650_0 $$aGay men$$zSoviet Union. 001484502 650_0 $$aAversion$$zSoviet Union. 001484502 650_6 $$aHomosexuels masculins$$zURSS. 001484502 650_6 $$aAversion$$zURSS. 001484502 655_0 $$aElectronic books. 001484502 77608 $$iPrint version:$$aAlexander, Rustam$$tGay Lives and 'Aversion Therapy' in Brezhnev's Russia, 1964-1982$$dCham : Palgrave Macmillan,c2024 001484502 830_0 $$aGenders and sexualities in history,$$x2730-9487 001484502 852__ $$bebk 001484502 85640 $$3Springer Nature$$uhttps://univsouthin.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://link.springer.com/10.1007/978-3-031-45870-5$$zOnline Access$$91397441.1 001484502 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1484502$$pGLOBAL_SET 001484502 980__ $$aBIB 001484502 980__ $$aEBOOK 001484502 982__ $$aEbook 001484502 983__ $$aOnline 001484502 994__ $$a92$$bISE
