TY - GEN N2 - An Introductory Information System (IIS) course is an opportunity for Information System (IS) programs to clarify business students’ understandings of IS disciplines and help them prepare for careers requiring IS skills. The course is also essential to attract students into the IS major and mitigate declines in IS enrollment. This paper provides a roadmap and description of implementing an IIS course as part of the business core curriculum at a public university in the Midwestern United States. The roadmap is rooted in both generalizable and institution-specific contexts and includes the identification of key stakeholders, institutional challenges, and nine course design principles. The core principles are outlined and recognized as the foundation of the success of the course. Following course implementation, we present the evaluation of the success of our roadmap and reflect on lessons learned in the process.
