Jesse Jackson, at the podium, was in town to speak at Vanderburgh Auditorium (715 Locust St.) on Feb. 20 and then, the next day, at Benjamin Bosse High School (1300 Washington Ave.) for Black History Month. This is at Bosse. The man further left is Harold Calloway, and next to him is Rev. Rucker Immediately behind Jackson is C.K. Newsome. Mayor Russell G. Lloyd Sr. is 4th from right and fifth from the right is W.R. Brown, Sr. Lloyd was mayor of Evansville 1972-1980. W.R. Brown, Sr. was a long-time pastor of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, and active in the civil rights movement. He died in 2010. Harold Calloway was active in the civil rights movement and is a long time life insurance agent. Cola K. Newsome was the first and for many years the only black physician in Evansville. A community center is named for him. He died in 1982. No further identifying information was found for Rucker.
