Description

The buiding on the left, housing Schultz's , is the Eichel Building at 3rd St. and Main St., aka the Eichel Block and the Hughes Building. It was built in 1892, using part of the foundation of the 1852 courthouse. In 1951 part of this building was destroyed by fire and that portion was torn down. The entire building was razed in 1984. Across the street, with the Ridgway sign, is the Ridgway Building at 313-315 Main St. The building predates 1895 because it was modernized to have this look in that year. It still stands today and looks much like this. Note that this postcard refers to Evansville as "The Air Crossroads of America. This is postcard 2735-29.
