Description

American Legion Home at 405 Carpenter St. This building was constructed in 1848-1849 as a home for Willard Carpenter, a local philanthropist, who also built and gave the city Willard Library. In 1933 the house was purchased by the American Legion, which occupied it until a local television station in 1958. The station used the building for almost 20 years until it was purchased by Medco. In 1985 it became the headquarters for the local PBS/NPR affiliates, and remained in their care until October 2017. This is photograph 14 AT 157.
