Description

Little Sisters of the Poor/St John's Home for the Aged at 1236 Lincoln Ave. Built in 1887, this facility was funded by lumber baron John Augustus Reitz as a memorial to his daughter, Mary Louise, who died in 1886. The building seen here was razed circa 1970 and replaced with a new building. In 2014 the Sisters withdrew from this facility and ownership passed to a new organization; today it is called University Nursing and Rehabilitation. "The Little Sisters of the Poor are an international congregation of Roman Catholic women religious founded in 1839 by Saint Jeanne Jugan. Together with a diverse network of collaborators, we serve the elderly poor in over 30 countries around the world. (http://www.littlesistersofthepoor.org/mission-statement/)
