Main St. from 6th St. In front is the American Trust & Savings Company at 524-530 Main St., aka Indiana Bank, aka American Trust Building. It was built in 1904, with the top 2 floors added in 1913. In 1931, the Depression ended the bank. The building still stands but no longer houses any sort of financial institution. The bulding two beyond the bank, with the ornate rooftop, is 518-520 Main St. is the John M. Geupel Commercial Block. The building was built in 1891 with a 1940 remodel; Harding and Miller opened in 1929. The building currently house a restaurant. Finally, the tallest building, mid-back, is the William Hughes Department Store at 508-514 Main St. The store moved to this location in 1911. Other department stores operated in this location after Hughes left, including J.C. Penney, beginning in 1956. At that time the facade on the main floor was changed from what is seen here. After Penney's moved out in 1981, this building sat vacant for a long time, possibly until its 2006 renovation into condos and businesses. This postcard contains a hand written note: "Just Guess?
