Description

Originally named Columbian Business College when it opened in 1893 at Fourth and Main Streets (seen in RH 033-541), the institution became known as Lockyear Business College after Melvin H. Lockyear became president four years later. Continuing growth led to the new building on Fifth Street (seen here), which was erected opened in 1911. In 1975, Lockyear opened a branch in Indianapolis, but financial problems forced the college's closing in 1991. The building shown here was razed in 1993 and is now a parking lot. This is postcard A25232.
