Description

"This view shows Main Street from the intersection of First Street around the beginning of the 20th century. The large building at right was originally the Gilbert Miller dry goods store [111-115 Main St.], built in 1885. By this time, the building has become home to the H. Fendrich Cigar Company [at 105 Main St. This building burned in 1910 and the factory moved to another location.] The Merchants National Bank 9on the coerner at left) [at 100 Main St.] was built in 1874 and served as the headquarters for the Royal Order of Lions in the 1920s. [It was razed around 1972. ]"(Engler, Joe. Evansville. (Postcard History Series) Charleston, SC: Arcadia Publishing, 2012, p. 68)
