Description

Old National Bank at 420 Main St. The Old State National Bank was established in 1834 as a branch of the Old State Bank of Indiana. Its first location was a temporary quarters at Main St. and Water St.(Riverside) In 1835 it moved into a new building and was renamed Old National Bank in 1883. In 1916 it moved to the location shown, and in 1927 was altered/modernized (the view here is thought to be post-1927) The bank moved again in 1970 and this building was razed. Old National Bank still exists today. Text on the back of the postcard indicates that this is the oldest financial institution in Indiana. The original building on Riverside Ave. was occupied from 1834-1838, and destroyed by the 1937 flood. The bank utilized the bottom 2 floors of this building.
