Aerial view of Benjamin Bosse High School and Enlow Field at 1300 Washington Ave. "Bosse, named after Evansville mayor Benjamin Bosse [who unexpectedly died in office at the age of 47], became the city's third high school. Bosse was built between 1923-1924 to serve the expanding population to the east of downtown. The school opened its doors to juniors from Old Central on January 29, 1924 and graduated its first class in 1925. It even served as an elementary school (Bosse Elementary) until Washington Elementary opened in 1937.". A major renovation from 1993 to 2000 maintained the same style as the original building. Bosse High School exemplifies how a historic school can be functional while remaining an architectural showpiece. (http://historicevansville.com/site.php?id=bosse) NOTE: at the time this school and stadium were constructed, Evansville already had a Bosse Field (see RH 033-172 and 173), so a different name was needed for this facility. It was named for C.B. (Charles) Enlow, a local banker and newspaper executive. He also was on the school board, where he was a major athletics backer. Text on the back of this postcard reads: "Tudor type structure. Situated on a 14-acre tract of land, has valuation of approximately million dollars. Completed in 1924. Enlow Field has seating capacity of 4,000 with valuation of $55,000."
