Advertisement, worded thus-- "Clarke Gas Engine Co. Stationary, Marine and Portable Gasoline Engines 1503-1505-1507 Canal Evansville, Ind., U.S.A." The business is listed in the 1911 city directory. Sometime between 1925-1931 the address changed to 703 Canal St. The company continues in existence at least through 1936, but in 1944 it is no longer listed and the Canal St. address is listed as vacant. There do not appear to be any buildings in either section of Canal St. that would be old enough to have contained this factory.
