Advertisement, worded thus-- "Evansville and Crawfordsville R.R. from Evansville to Rockville [IL] 132 miles. Connecting at Vincennes with the Ohio and Mississippi Railroad, for Louisville, Cincinnati, St. Louis and Cairo [IL]. At Terre Haute, wih the Terre Haute and Richmond R.R. for Indianapolis, Cincinnati, & Eastern Cities. And with Terre Haute, Alton [IL] and St. Louis Railroad, for the North-West." John Ingle, Jr. is listed and president and superintendent, with J. E. Martin, secretary and treasurer. The ad also lists the agents at the various stations. Evansville & Crawfordsville (E & C RR) was chartered in 1853 and was the first railroad to provide service to Evansville. The railroad was later renamed the Evansville and Terre Haute Railroad in 1877. There were 4 stations in Evansville: Erskine, on Petersburg Rd., Ingle on Inglefield Rd., Stacer on Stacer Rd., and the terminus was Union Station at 801 Main St. Built in 1882, Union Station was razed around the time the E & C RR merged into the Chicago and Eastern Illinois (C & E I) RR circa 1911.
