Postcard of "Junior High School and Auditorium." In 1868, after having attended classes in various buildings, high school students got their own school was Evansville High School was built at 203 NW 6th St. In 1898 a tower and additional wings were added. It eventually grew to fill the space between NW 6th and 7th Sts./Court St. and Vine St. In 1918 another high school was built in Evansville, this one on the west side of town, Francis Joseph Reitz High School. At that time Evansville High School was renamed Central High School. In 1971 a new Central High School was built and in 1973 the original one was razed, with the exception of the gymnasium, which today is a part of the downtown YMCA. What is seen here is the 1903 Manual Training School, which was eventually merged into the main part of the old Central.
