Description

Newman Grocery Co. advertisement in the form of a calendar, for 1913. The address given is at Seventh and Sycamore Sts., and "Celebrated Kentucky Whiskies" are touted. The 1911 city directory has a Newman Grocery Co. at 125-127 Upper 7th St., which would be at the intersection with Sycamore St. Its president is listed as Adolph Stallman, and the store has "High Class Groceries, Country Produce a Speciality." The 1914 city directory entry has "Groceries and Liquors, Mail Order Department." Adolph Stallman appears in the 1904 city directory, but with a different occupation and thus this grocery is thought to have been founded sometime between 1905-1911. Adolph Stallman is still listed in the 1924 city directory, but with a different occupation and the grocery is no longer existed, so it must have ceased operation sometime between 1915-1924.
