Here children are playing dress up in old-fashioned clothes. In 1900, George Mesker, owner of Mesker Iron Co., donated land and money for Mesker Park. With more funding and land, a zoo opened in the park in 1928. The zoo is at 1545 Mesker Park Dr., and when opened, was one of the first to use a moat system. At the time of this photograph, the entrance would have been on Bement Ave., the short street off to the right of Mesker Park Dr. 001514930 542__ $$fhttp://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC-NC/1.0/ 001514930 6531_ $$aEvents 001514930 655__ $$aColor Photograph 001514930 691__ $$aEvansville, IN 001514930 7001_ $$aBrad Awe 001514930 8564_ $$9fb33c393-1803-4e16-b5ac-bf2c00f32ed8$$s2863498$$uhttps://library.usi.edu/record/1514930/files/26317.jpg 001514930 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1514930$$pGLOBAL_SET 001514930 914__ $$aVolume1171/MSS 184-1678.tif 001514930 914__ $$aRLIC 001514930 980__ $$aSpecial & Regional History Collection 001514930 984__ $$aBrad Awe Collection 001514930 985__ $$aImage
