Description

Craddock Furniture at 1400 W. Illinois S., at the corner with 6th St. Indiana Stove Works (or its predecessor) built this building sometime around 1870 and remodeled and enlarged it in 1890. That company ceased business " in 1926, and in 1936 Craddock Furniture moved in. The building still stands, and today: "Craddock Finishing is a third generation family-owned business providing OEMs with painted enclosures and sub-assemblies. Paint application has always been an integral part of the manufacturing process. Incorporated in 1934 as a proprietary dining room furniture manufacturer, the mid 60s found the company a contract television/stereo cabinet producer for Zenith, RCA, Admiral and Sylvania. However, a fire in 1972 destroyed the woodworking plant causing a major shift in the focus of its business activities� a focus it has maintained for 39 subsequent years.
