In 1900, George Mesker, owner of Mesker Iron Co., donated land and money for Mesker Park. With more funding and land, a zoo opened in the park in 1928. The zoo is at 1545 Mesker Park Dr., and when opened, was one of the first to use a moat system. At the time of this photograph, the entrance would have been on Bement Ave., the short street off to the right of Mesker Park Dr. 001515078 542__ $$fhttp://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC-NC/1.0/ 001515078 6531_ $$aEvents 001515078 655__ $$aColor Photograph 001515078 691__ $$aEvansville, IN 001515078 7001_ $$aBrad Awe 001515078 8564_ $$9bfcc23b9-4967-4c10-b103-5301364e6295$$s2210825$$uhttps://library.usi.edu/record/1515078/files/25549.jpg 001515078 909CO $$ooai:library.usi.edu:1515078$$pGLOBAL_SET 001515078 914__ $$aVolume1166/MSS 184-1628.tif 001515078 914__ $$aRLIC 001515078 980__ $$aSpecial & Regional History Collection 001515078 984__ $$aBrad Awe Collection 001515078 985__ $$aImage
