Oral history interview of George Femmer. George Elias Femmer enlisted in WWII (1943-1946) in the Merchant Marines. He trained for 9 months at the Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy and rose from Ensign to Engineer to Lieutenant. He was aboard Liberty Ships SS Robert Tombs, SS Alexander Wilson, SS American Banker, and Courser. On his first voyage (training voyage) they went from Charleston to Panama to Australia to Sri Lanka to India to Karachi to South Africa to Brazil to Trinidad, for a total of 34,714 miles. They also delivered supplies in the Mediterranean area and in Europe.
