Oral history interview of Charles Lawhead. Charles E. Lawhead enlisted in WWII (1942-1945) in the Navy aboard the USS Essex (CV 9) as Seaman First (1st) Class. He saw action in the Pacific Theater and did repairs on the flight and hanger decks. He received ship presidential recognition.
