Oral history interview of Dennis Cable. Dennis W. Cable enlisted in WWII (1941-1947) in the Navy and served aboard the USS Vulcan (AR 5), USS Salinas (AO 19), and USS Kearny (DD 432), serving as a Signalman Third (3rd) Class. He saw action in the European Theater, mainly in the Atlantic, in Algeria, Argentina, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Italy, Newfoundland, North Africa, Reykjavik, Iceland, South America, as well as Washington, DC, Norfolk, VA (Virginia), and Maine. While aboard the USS Kearney off Iceland in 1941 (before Pearl Harbor), the ship was torpedoed but managed to escape with 11 casualties and 22 injuries, making it to safe waters for repair.
