Oral history interview of Ray Abbott. Raymond Charles Abbott was drafted into WWII (1942-1945) in the Navy and served as a Gunnersmate Second (2nd) Class, acting as an armed guard on merchant ships in both the Atlantic and Pacific. He was in the Aleutian Islands, at the liberation of the southern Philippines (earning a Bronze Star). He also earned/was awarded recognition fot the American Theater, Asiatic-Pacific (Bronze Star?), European African Middle Eastern Victory bar, and a Good Conduct medal. He seved aboard the SS William Fen, SS David H. Atwater, SS New Haven, SS Villa de Anuers, and SS Wood Lake. (NOTE: unable to verify some of these names.)
